Patna: The results of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections in the Chhapra constituency have reached a highly interesting and emotional turn, where RJD candidate and Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav, after initially leading in the trends, is now trailing. By the end of 13 rounds of counting, BJP's Chhoti Kumari had already taken a lead of 7,739 votes. Seeing the growing gap, Khesari Lal Yadav became visibly emotional and left the counting hall mid-counting. Khesari said, "People are good, I will always be with them."

Khesari Lal Yadav, who emerged amid fears of defeat, told the media, "People are very good, people are never bad... I will always be among the people. I will say it when I have to. I trust God, not anyone else."

His statement has gone viral on social media, where his supporters are encouraging him and even his opponents are praising his restraint.

Bihar Results 2025: RJD faces setback; Tejashwi’s seat in danger

Why Has Chhapra Seat become So High-Profile?

This time, the entire state was focused on the Chhapra assembly seat because Bhojpuri film superstar and singer Khesari Lal Yadav was in the fray. RJD fielded Khesari to end the BJP's three-time consecutive victory streak.

Chhoti Kumari, a former district council president, proved to be a strong candidate for the BJP. Her husband, Dharmendra Sah, is the party's district general secretary, giving her a strong local presence.

This seat has a large Vaishya community, which was considered decisive in this election.

Chapra's Caste and Political Picture

Chapra was once a Lok Sabha constituency in its own right, but after delimitation, it was included in the Saran Lok Sabha constituency.

From 1965 to 2014, candidates from the Rajput and Yadav communities won here. Then, in the 2014 by-election, RJD's Randhir Kumar Singh won for the first time.

Following this, BJP's Dr CN Gupta won consecutively in both the 2015 and 2020 elections, becoming the first non-Yadav, non-Rajput winner from Chhapra.

This time, he was denied a ticket, and the BJP placed its faith in Chhoti Kumari, a decision that now appears to be proving correct. Khesari's defeat is not yet formal, but the margin appears to be widening.

In the 28 rounds of counting, Khesari Yadav has been steadily trailing. While the official announcement is pending, trends clearly indicate that the BJP may retain the seat.

The Chhapra seat encompasses several key blocks, including Chhapra Municipality, Naini, Fakuli, Karinga, Mauna, Barhara, and Revilganj. This time, the political contest here was entirely a contest between star power and local influence.

Doesn't Stardom Work In Politics?

Khesari Lal Yadav was expected to translate his popularity into votes. However, the constituency's caste structure, local dynamics, and the BJP's strong presence posed significant challenges.

However, Khesari has stated that he will remain in the public eye, suggesting that his political journey will not end here.
