Bhatkal: At least 8 dead in river following a heartbreaking Karnataka river drowning incident, including 7 women drowned when swept away by strong currents in the Thate Hakkalu river accident near Bhatkal river in Uttara Kannada district on Sunday.

The tragic Bhatkal drowning incident took place when a group of people went to the river for bathing. Local police officials say a sudden surge in water flow and dangerous currents pulled several people into the deep water, sparking panic among locals at the scene.

Officials said that so far, in this major Karnataka accident, the bodies of 8 people have been recovered. Seven women were among the dead making it one of the deadliest recent India drowning news reported from Karnataka.
