Srinagar: Life remained crippled Saturday in Shopian district and parts of Pulwama in south Kashmir, where three Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants, including a top commander, were killed in an encounter by security forces.

Additional security forces and state police personnel have been deployed in Shopian and Pulwama, where polling will be held in the third and last phase of voting in Anantnag Parliamentary constituency on May 6. First two phases were held in Anantnag and Kulgam districts last month.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in Shopian, where three militants were killed by security forces in an encounter at Imamsahib yesterday.

Majority educational institutions, tuition and coaching centres remained closed. Work in government offices and banks was affected. Business and other activities remained paralysed in some parts of the Pulwama district. However, majority shops and business establishments at Awantipora were functioning normally. Traffic was also plying though additional security forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

Situation elsewhere in south Kashmir, including Anantnag and Kulgam was normal.(UNI)
