Schools in Telangana and Bihar will remain closed on November 11 and 14, 2025, due to ongoing bye-elections. Discover which districts are affected, polling schedules, and why educational institutions are observing holidays during this period.

Patna: Schools and certain government offices in Telangana and Bihar have been declared closed to facilitate smooth conduct of ongoing bye-elections. In Telangana, the 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency in Hyderabad district will go to polls on November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14. Similarly, schools in Bihar are observing holidays on polling and counting days in line with the Election Commission’s directives.

The closures are part of a wider plan to ensure that polling and vote counting activities proceed without disruption. Schools and offices functioning as polling or counting centres are designated as official venues for electoral processes. This ensures that both students and staff can participate in or stay clear of the election procedures without interference.

Telangana Bye-Election Details

The Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency in Hyderabad district has been the focus of the bye-elections, which will see a total of 58 candidates contesting. The main competition is expected between Congress, BJP, and BRS. BJP has fielded L. Deepak Reddy, BRS has nominated Sunita Gopinath, widow of the late MLA Gopinath, and Congress candidate Naveen Yadav is supported by AIMIM.

Polling will take place on November 11 from 7 AM to 6 PM, and vote counting is scheduled for November 14. Authorities have declared November 10, 11, and 14 as paid holidays for schools and offices functioning as polling and counting centres to enable smooth conduct of elections.

Bihar School Holidays for Bye-Elections

In Bihar, the Election Commission has mandated paid holidays for all schools and eligible workers on the day of polling and vote counting. This is in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which ensures that voters employed in any business, trade, or establishment are granted leave to exercise their right to vote.

Bihar Elections: 136 Women in fray; From Manjhi’s bahu to Renu Devi, all eyes on star contenders

This directive also applies to bye-elections across eight assembly constituencies in seven states and Union Territories that are scheduled on the same dates.

Security Measures and Voting Arrangements

To ensure a safe and fair voting process in Jubilee Hills, 1,761 police personnel and eight companies of CISF have been deployed. In addition, live webcasting will be arranged at all polling stations, supplemented by drone surveillance. These measures aim to maintain transparency and security while avoiding any disruptions during polling and counting.

Bihar Election 2025 Result Date: Nitish vs Tejashwi; All eyes on November 14 counting day

Conclusion: Stay Informed

Students, parents, and school staff in Telangana and Bihar are advised to plan accordingly as schools remain closed during the bye-election period. Observing holidays on polling and counting days is a crucial step to support democratic processes while allowing citizens to exercise their voting rights without hindrance.

Strategic Move By Congress

The appointment of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin as a cabinet minister by the Congress government in Telangana is being considered a strategic move. This decision comes as the party is preparing for the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, which has over 100,000 Muslim voters, which could influence the outcome.

Also Read This: Will Donald Trump once again distance himself from Pakistan because of India?

Looking At The Jubilee Hills By-Election

The Jubilee Hills seat fell vacant in June this year following the death of BRS MLA Manganti Gopinath. A by-election is now scheduled for this seat. Political analysts believe that appointing Azharuddin as a minister is part of the Congress’s strategy to strengthen its support base among the Muslim community.

Nominated for MLC

Last August, the Telangana government sent a proposal to nominate Azharuddin to the Legislative Council (MLC) from the Governor’s quota. However, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has not yet approved the proposal. Azharuddin contested the 2023 assembly elections from the Jubilee Hills constituency on a Congress ticket but lost.

BJP Accuses Congress of violating the code of conduct

The opposition has strongly objected to Azharuddin’s ministerial appointment. The BJP has written to the Election Commission, calling it a “violation of the code of conduct” and alleging that Congress is trying to influence voters ahead of the by-elections through this move. BJP leaders said, “Azharuddin was seeking a ticket from the same assembly constituency, and now by making him a minister, Congress has tried to influence the election atmosphere.”

Also Read This: SC to continue hearing petitions filed by Umar Khalid and Sharjeel

Congress Counterattacks

Congress, responding to the BJP’s allegations, said that no rules were violated in this appointment. The party said, “In Rajasthan too, the BJP made its candidate a minister before the elections, and he lost. Azharuddin’s appointment is part of fulfilling Congress’s promise of social justice.”

Become A Member Within 6 Months

Constitutional rules require any non-MLA to become a member of the Legislative Council or Legislative Assembly within six months of becoming a minister. Azharuddin is currently neither an MLA nor a member of the Legislative Council. If he fails to become an MLC within six months, he will have to resign as a minister.

Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s entry into the Telangana cabinet has stirred political debate. While Congress calls it a boost for governance, BJP slams it as minority appeasement ahead of the Jubilee Hills bypoll. What’s behind this move?

Hyderabad: Former Indian cricket captain and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin has sworn in as a minister in the Telangana cabinet on Friday, marking a notable political development for the ruling party in the state.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan, where Governor Jishnu Dev Verma administered the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and senior Congress leaders.

With Azharuddin’s inclusion, the Telangana cabinet now has 16 ministers, leaving two more slots vacant as per the constitutional limit of 18. His induction is being viewed as a calculated political step by the Congress, especially with the Jubilee Hills bypoll approaching- a seat where the party faces a strong contest.

Cyclone Montha Triggers Deluge in Telangana: Roads submerged, schools shut, trains halted

A Strategic Political Move by Congress

Azharuddin’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Telangana Congress, which is keen to consolidate its support base ahead of the by-election in Jubilee Hills. The constituency holds significant political weight, boasting over one lakh Muslim voters, who could decisively influence the outcome.

The bypoll was necessitated following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June this year due to a cardiac arrest. Political analysts suggest that bringing Azharuddin into the cabinet could strengthen Congress’s outreach among minority voters and urban constituencies in Hyderabad.

Azharuddin Denies Bypoll Connection

Addressing reporters after taking the oath, Azharuddin dismissed claims that his ministerial appointment was politically timed. “I am happy and grateful to my party leadership, the public, and my supporters. This has nothing to do with the Jubilee by-election. These are two separate matters and should not be linked,” he said.

The former cricketer, who captained India in three World Cups and later transitioned into politics, added that he would work “honestly for the upliftment of the oppressed sections.” Responding to BJP criticism, he asserted, “G. Kishan Reddy can say whatever he wants. I do not need a certificate of patriotism from anyone.”

BJP Slams Congress for ‘Minority Appeasement’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, strongly condemned the move, alleging that Azharuddin’s induction was part of the Congress’s “appeasement politics.” The party accused the government of prioritising “vote-bank politics over governance,” claiming the timing of the cabinet expansion was deliberately aligned with the bypoll campaign.

Telangana minister blames driver; Who is responsible for lives lost in Kurnool bus fire?

BJP leaders described the appointment as a “reward for electoral expedience”, arguing that it was designed to woo Muslim voters in Jubilee Hills rather than being a merit-based decision.

Political Significance Ahead

Despite the criticism, Congress circles view Azharuddin’s entry as a morale booster for the party’s cadre and a symbolic gesture to strengthen its urban and minority outreach. The former cricket icon, who has represented Hyderabad in Parliament in the past, brings both popularity and experience to the Revanth Reddy cabinet.

As Telangana gears up for a politically charged by-election, all eyes will now be on how Azharuddin’s presence influences the Congress’s campaign and the larger political landscape in the state.

With Diwali just around the corner, Telangana’s food safety teams swooped through 33 districts, inspecting 95 sweet‑shops and seizing over 100 kg of adulterated sweets, breads and other festive food items. what does this mean for your family’s celebrations?

Hyderabad: In a major effort to ensure festive food safety, the state‑wide crackdown in Telangana covered all 33 districts and focused on sweet manufacturing units and retail outlets. A total of 95 sweets units were inspected, and enforcement teams uncovered blatant food‑safety violations. Among the key findings: synthetic food colours being used in milk‑based sweets such as jalebi, laddus and khoya items; unlabelled and expired products being sold; and improper hygiene standards throughout the supply chain.

Adulteration and hygiene lapses exposed

The most alarming discovery was the persistent use of synthetic food colours in preparations of milk‑based sweets. On top of that, inspectors found adulterated ghee and reused cooking oil being used in sweet preparation, as well as sweets covered with non‑food‑grade silver foil — a combination of violations that undermine both the safety and integrity of festive foods. Many premises also revealed serious hygiene deficits: poor sanitation, pest infestations, lack of proper worker protective gear, inadequate drainage and storage, and absence of valid licensing.

Seizures and sample testing ramped up

During the drive, over 60 kg of sweets and more than 40 kg of bread and other adulterated food items were seized and destroyed on the spot. The teams collected 77 enforcement samples and 157 surveillance samples, all of which have been dispatched to the Food Testing Laboratory (FTL) for detailed analysis. In addition, spot‑testing was carried out via “Food Safety on Wheels” units wherever available, giving immediate feedback on product quality.

Regulatory campaign and consumer advisory

The initiative is part of the state’s #FoodSafetyTelangana campaign, aligned with the national Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) “#EatRightIndia” programme. Authorities have issued a consumer advisory urging buyers to remain vigilant during the festive season:

Only purchase sweets and milk‑based products from licensed outlets clearly displaying the FSSAI registration number.

Avoid sweets with unnaturally bright or overly intense colours, or those wrapped in non‑food‑grade silver foil.

Always check the “Date of Manufacture” and “Best Before” or expiry date on packaging.

If the product appears stale, smells unusual, or is packed in unhygienic conditions, do not purchase it.

What this means for consumers

With the demand for festive sweets soaring ahead of Diwali, these findings raise serious concerns about quality control across the supply chain. The use of synthetic colours and adulterated oils not only violates food‑safety norms but also poses health risks especially for children or those with sensitivities. The visible hygiene withdrawals underline the importance of selecting trusted vendors and inspecting packaging.

New Delhi: The Center has taken a tough stand on the deaths of children due to cough syrups. A high-level meeting with states has issued strict instructions.

Health Ministry Directs States

The deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to the consumption of cough syrups have shocked the entire nation. Following this, the Central Government took a tough stand and held an important meeting with the Health Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of all states and union territories. The meeting, chaired by Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, discussed the quality, safety, and correct use of the syrups.

Instructions to Crack Down on Pharmaceutical Companies

The meeting directed all pharmaceutical manufacturers to strictly adhere to the revised Schedule M. It also threatened to revoke the licenses of factories violating the rules. The Center has also urged states to ensure limited and cautious use of cough syrups, especially among children, as most minor coughs resolve without medication.

How dangerous is diethylene glycol found in ‘Coldrif’ cough syrup? Click here for details

Orders for Action on Coldrif Syrup

The situation regarding the cough syrup ‘Coldrif’ has become more serious. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has directed strict action against Sareshan Pharmaceuticals, the company that manufactures this drug. A letter has been written to the Tamil Nadu FDA, asking it to take action against the company under serious offenses. This decision was taken after several children died in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan due to this syrup.

Investigation of 19 Suspected Drugs Underway

The CDSCO has launched an investigation campaign across the country to identify suspicious drugs in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. So far, samples of 19 drugs have been collected, including syrups, antibiotics, and fever and vomiting medications.

Strictness On Use Of Syrups In Young Children

The central government has issued clear instructions that cough syrups should not be given to children under two years of age. For children under five, syrups should be used only on the advice of a doctor and in very limited quantities.

Doctor arrested in cough syrup scandal after 14 children die in Madhya Pradesh

Dangerous Chemical Confirmed

According to a Telangana government report, a batch of ‘Coldrif’ syrup has been found to contain a toxic chemical called diethylene glycol (DEG), which causes kidney damage and can be fatal. Consequently, a warning has been issued to immediately discontinue the use of this drug.

The government is now determined to tolerate no negligence in this matter and is working to hold the pharmaceutical industry accountable through strict monitoring and strict action.

Hyderabad Police has busted a big drug smuggling network, which was being run through a popular dating app. During this operation, the police have arrested two drug peddlers and seven customers.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police has busted a big drug smuggling network, which was being run through a popular dating app. During this operation, the police have arrested two drug peddlers and seven customers.

100 grams of MDMA, 10 mobile phones, and a weighing machine have been recovered from the accused, whose total value is said to be around 15 lakh rupees.

How was this network running?

The main accused, M. Ramakant, alias Kiran (44), and Mudawat Prasad (30), had set up their network on a gay dating app using code names like ‘Rocket’ and ‘Pigeon.’ According to the police, due to Ramakant’s same-sex sexual interests, he started contacting customers through this app and then started supplying them drugs like MDMA.

Purchase and sale of drugs

The accused used to buy MDMA (Ecstasy) drugs from a Nigerian drug supplier based in Bengaluru. Initially, he used to buy this drug for ₹10,000 per gram and sell it in Hyderabad for ₹15,000 per gram. Later, he started buying it for ₹4,000 per gram and selling it for ₹7,000 to ₹8,000 per gram. This gave them huge profits.

Justice Shree Chandrashekhar appointed as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court

Who were the customers?

The seven customers arrested include a general surgeon, an IT recruiter, and a sex worker. All the customers came in contact through dating apps. Of these, one person was found HIV positive, which has further increased health concerns.

Arrests have been made earlier too

This is not the first time these accused have been caught in a drugs case. In July 2024, also, both of them were arrested and sent to jail on charges of drug smuggling. After getting released on bail, they started their network again.

Moon will appear red on this day; Here are details

Using technology to peddle drugs

Police said that the accused used to connect with customers through encrypted messaging apps and dating apps so that they would not get caught. They had made only selected people their customers by hiding their identity.

This case is not limited to drug trafficking, but it also involves many serious issues like misuse of dating apps, health risks, and criminal recidivism. The police have handed over all the accused to the Chilkalguda police station, and further investigation is underway.

The industry had high expectations regarding mobile phones in the meeting, but the GST Council did not reduce the tax rate on smartphones.

New Delhi: A big decision related to consumers was taken in the meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council held on 3 September. The government has reduced the tax on several electronic products. Now many household and electronic goods have come in the slab of 18% instead of 28%. However, smartphone customers have not got any relief this time.

No Change On Smartphones

The industry had high expectations regarding mobile phones in the meeting, but the GST Council did not reduce the tax rate on smartphones. At present, mobile phones will remain in the 18% GST slab. Experts say that smartphones already fall in the 18% category and it was not possible to bring it down to 5%. Therefore, consumers will not get any benefit this time.

Gold price drops following GST Council’s new tax reforms; Check price here

On Which Products Was Tax Reduced?

Air Conditioner (AC): Earlier 28% GST was levied, which has been reduced to 18%.

LED/LCD TV: TVs larger than 32 inches will now come under 18% GST slab instead of 28%. (Smaller TVs were already taxed at 18%.)

Computer monitors and projectors: These will now attract 18% GST instead of 28%.

Dish washing machine: Tax rate on kitchen appliances has also been reduced to 18%.

Lithium ion battery: Batteries falling under 8507 category will now be in 18% tax slab instead of 28%.

How Much Will Be The Benefit?

With the reduction in tax, the prices of many products will now come down. According to reports, the price of air conditioners can come down by Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 depending on the model and brand. Appliances like TVs, monitors and dishwashers will also now be cheaper than before. Industry experts believe that this decision will increase the demand in the electronic market and more customers will be inspired to buy these products.

Sin Goods Explained: High-tax products targeted by GST Council’s 40% slab

Mixed Response From Customers

While this is a relief for those buying large household appliances, smartphone users are disappointed. People believe that the prices of mobile phones should also have been affected as it is a necessity for every household. But the council believes that the tax on smartphones is already at a rational rate.

Overall, this decision of the GST Council has made products like AC, TV and fridge pocket-friendly. Now it remains to be seen how much this tax cut boosts the electronic market and to what extent customers are able to benefit.

Some relatives who came to the house said that they are unable to understand the cause of death. Lakshmaiah was a construction worker and lived with his wife. His daughter and son-in-law live elsewhere in Aziz Nagar. According to relatives and friends, Kavitha had come to her maternal home a week ago with her husband and was looking for a new house. Anil had called a friend on Wednesday evening and told him that he had found a new house and was going to shift there on Thursday.

Police said that Anil also worked as a construction laborer. He had gone to Hyderabad to support the family and repay some debts. Police suspect that he may have taken this step due to financial problems. A police officer said that the real cause of death will be clear only after the postmortem report comes. The investigating officer is currently recording the statements of relatives and friends.

Hyderabad: BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) called for an impartial and thorough investigation into the allegations of harassment made by Miss England, Milla Magee, during her visit to Telangana.

KT Rama Rao Statement

In a statement here on Sunday, he expressed deep anguish over the incident. KTR emphasised that such acts are unacceptable on Telangana soil, which has a rich tradition of respecting and revering women. “As a father to a daughter, I sincerely hope that no woman has to endure such trauma,” he said, extending heartfelt apologies to Milla Magee on behalf of the people of Telangana.

KTR asserted that the incident does not reflect the true spirit of Telangana and is completely contrary to the values upheld by its citizens. He highlighted Telangana’s longstanding tradition of empowering women, drawing inspiration from legendary female figures like Rani Rudrama Devi and Chityala Ailamma.

Commending Milla Magee

Commending Milla Magee for her courage in speaking out on an international platform like Miss World, KTR praised her strength and hoped for her swift emotional recovery from the ordeal.

Mila Maggi Accused Organizers

After leaving Miss World competition being held in India, Mila Maggi has accused the organizers of exploitation. She said that due to exploitation, she feels like a prostitute in this job.

Hyderabad: Two fragile premature twin boys born in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, weighing just 1.4 kg and 1.5 kg, were fighting for their lives due to severe infections when they were urgently airlifted to KIMS Cuddles Hospital in Kondapur, Hyderabad. This marked the first time premature twins were transferred by air ambulance to the Telugu states.

Doctor Shared Details

Dr Aparna C, Clinical Director of Neonatology and Head of NICU at KIMS Cuddles, shared details of this extraordinary case. One twin was critically ill during transfer, suffering from both a fungal infection and a drug-resistant bacterial infection (Klebsiella), which led to multi-organ failure.

He was immediately put on a ventilator and given multiple medications, including blood pressure support. His kidneys had stopped functioning, and he had no urine output for 24 hours. The second twin was diagnosed with fungal sepsis and required CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) support. Both babies had extremely low platelet counts and needed multiple blood and platelet transfusions.

Remarkable Recovery

After nearly a month of intensive care, both babies showed remarkable recovery. Their infections were controlled, they began breastfeeding, and their weights increased to nearly 2 kilograms. Comprehensive tests including retinal screening, hearing assessments, and neurosonograms indicated normal results, suggesting no risk to their long-term development. The twins were
brought to Hyderabad on the 25th day after birth.

Dedicated Care Team

The dedicated care team led by Dr Rajashekar, along with the ICATT team, Dr. Vamsi, Dr. Aravind, Dr. Praneetha, and nurse Sunitha, ensured round-the-clock care during the twins’ hospital stay. While such air transfers are financially feasible for only a few, they offer critical clinical benefits by providing access to advanced infrastructure, experienced specialists, and immediate intensive care.

Dr Aparna praised the combined efforts of NICU specialists, doctors, nurses, and support staff who played an essential role in saving the twins’ lives. Following their successful recovery, the babies have been discharged and sent back to their home state, a hospital statement said on Saturday.

Preemie Twins

Premature twin babies, or “preemie twins,” are those born before 37 weeks of gestation. They are more likely to be premature than singletons due to the physical strain of carrying multiple fetuses and the increased likelihood of complications during pregnancy. Approximately 60% of twin pregnancies result in birth before 37 weeks.

Hyderabad: On the directive of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, a Medical Tourism Introduction Program will be held for Miss World Contestants at AIG Hospital here on May 16.

Contestants from 120 countries are expected to participate in the Program, with the event to be broadcast in over 150 countries, offering Telangana a massive global platform to showcase its healthcare excellence, an official statement said on Saturday.

It said Telangana is rapidly cementing its position on the global medical tourism map, thanks to world-class healthcare infrastructure, advanced technologies, expert medical professionals, and strong government backing.

Under the leadership of Revanth Reddy, the state has now received special recognition as a global medical tourism hub and is set to take this image worldwide through the upcoming 72nd Miss World event.

Affordable Treatments

Telangana’s medical treatments are significantly more affordable than those in Western countries, with costs 60–80 per cent lower. For example, heart surgeries that cost USD 100,000 in the U.S. are available in Hyderabad for as low as Rs 5,000–10,000.

Similarly, knee replacements that range between USD 40,000–60,000 abroad are offered for less than USD 5,000 in Hyderabad. This cost-efficiency, coupled with high success rates, has drawn thousands of international patients.

Top Hospitals

Top hospitals such as NIMS, Osmania Hospital, MNJ Cancer Hospital, Apollo Hospitals, Yashoda Hospitals, and Apollo Continental offer advanced medical technologies, including robotic surgeries, telemedicine, and multispecialty treatments in fields like cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, fertility treatments, plastic surgery, and transplants.

Many hospitals in Telangana hold prestigious JCI and NABH accreditations, building further trust among international patients. In addition to modern medicine, the state is promoting traditional Indian medical systems—Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, and Unani—making it a unique blend of contemporary and holistic healing.

Foreign Medical Tourists

In 2014, Telangana received 75,171 foreign medical tourists. By 2024, that number more than doubled to 1,55,313. Additionally, 8.82 crore patients from other Indian states sought treatment in Telangana last year alone, reinforcing the state’s dominance in the domestic medical tourism landscape, the statement said.

The government has identified key factors driving this success: low-cost and effective treatments, minimal waiting times, English-speaking medical staff, streamlined e-visa processes, excellent connectivity, and strong administrative support.

With the global spotlight from the Miss World 2025 pageant, Telangana aims to further accelerate this momentum and become a top-tier international destination for medical tourism, the statement added.
