Patna: An unexpected and violent incident took place in Malavan village of Bihar’s Nalanda district on Wednesday. Rural Development Minister in the state government Shravan Kumar and local Hilsa assembly MLA Krishna Murari, alias Prem Mukhiya, were attacked by a group of villagers. The mob surrounded the leaders with sticks and started chasing them.

Leaders had to run for their lives

The situation became so serious and uncontrollable that the minister and MLA had to run on foot for about a kilometer to save their lives. Finally, they somehow reached their vehicle and immediately boarded another vehicle and managed to leave the spot safely.

Cause of incident: Road accident and late arrival

This entire incident is related to a tragic road accident that took place on August 23, in which 9 people of the Hilsa area died on the spot. The minister and MLA reached the village on Wednesday, four days after the incident, to express condolences to the families of those killed in this accident.

Anger and allegations of the villagers

The behavior of the leaders filled the villagers with anger. The main allegations of the villagers were as follows:

Late arrival: The villagers believed that the leaders should have come immediately after the accident, not four days later.

Formalities and show-off: They alleged that the leaders had come only to fulfill formalities and to show off politically.

Not giving time: The minister and MLA spent only a few minutes with the victim families and wanted to finish the program quickly and leave. The villagers wanted the leaders to stay for at least two to three hours and listen to their problems.

As soon as the leaders started returning, the angry villagers picked up sticks and started chasing them.

Police response and political response

As soon as the incident was reported, there was a stir in the police department. A large police force, including the DSP of Hilsa, immediately reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Reacting to the incident, JD(U) district president Mohammad Arshad alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of the opposition. He said ministers and MLAs had gone to offer condolences on behalf of the government, but some people vitiated the atmosphere. He also said police were investigating the matter and strict action would be taken against the culprits.
