Mumbai: Renault has unveiled its all-new Niagara lifestyle pickup truck, bringing SUV-inspired styling, 4x4 capability and advanced technology to the global pickup segment. Based on the same platform as the Renault Duster, the Niagara will be first launched in Brazil with petrol-powered variants, while a hybrid version is expected to arrive later.
Renault has introduced the Niagara pickup as part of its strategy to expand its presence beyond European markets. The double-cab lifestyle pickup will make its market debut in Brazil in November 2026. The company plans to offer both 4x2 and 4x4 versions at launch, targeting customers looking for a mix of urban comfort, off-road capability and utility performance.
A hybrid powertrain is currently under development and is expected to arrive around 2027 as Renault prepares to compete with rivals offering electrified pickup options.
The Renault Niagara is built on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP) which is the same architecture used by the Duster SUV. However, its styling takes inspiration from the larger Renault Boreal SUV, especially around the front profile. The pickup features a bold black grille, layered bumper design, protective underbody elements and modern lighting signatures. The double-cab body gets squared wheel arches, strong body cladding, roof rails and 4x4 branding on all-wheel-drive variants. At the front, the pickup carries pixel-style Renault lettering, while the tailgate features embossed Niagara branding. Depending on the variant, customers will get 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, a rigid tonneau cover and a wide rear bumper designed for practicality.
The new Renault Niagara measures 4,940 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and 1,720 mm in height. It comes with a 2,960 mm wheelbase and offers a cargo capacity of 938 litres. The pickup can carry a payload of up to 654 kg and has a towing capacity of 710 kg. These figures position the Niagara as a practical lifestyle pickup aimed at adventure-focused buyers and commercial users.
At the launch, all Renault Niagara variants will use a 1.3-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol engine. The engine produces up to 156 hp on petrol and around 160 hp when running on ethanol fuel, with peak torque rated at 270 Nm. Transmission options include a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The entry-level model will come with front-wheel drive and manual transmission, while higher variants will offer automatic transmission. The top-spec outsider variant will feature all-wheel drive, giving it improved capability on rough roads, mud and uneven terrain.
Inside, the Renault Niagara borrows several design elements from the Boreal SUV. The cabin includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in Google services. Google Gemini integration will offer more advanced voice assistance compared to traditional voice command systems. Other features include USB Type-C charging ports, reclining rear seats with a 25-degree adjustment and 36 litres of storage space behind the rear seats. However, Renault has skipped some premium Boreal features, including a panoramic sunroof and Harman Kardon audio system.
The pickup will come equipped with a wide range of driver assistance technologies. Safety features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, lane-keeping assistance, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, speed sign recognition, reverse emergency braking, automatic parking and a 360-degree camera system.
Renault has confirmed that hybrid technology will arrive in Brazil from 2027, and the Niagara is expected to be one of the first models to receive the electrified powertrain. While Renault has not revealed complete details, the hybrid system could be based on the existing 1.3-litre TCe turbo flex-fuel engine. The move will help Renault compete with global pickup manufacturers that are increasingly introducing hybrid and electrified models.
