New Delhi: The Central Government on Friday appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police. He succeeds Satish Golcha, who had been serving as the police chief of the national capital since August 2025.

The appointment was announced through an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

1994-Batch IPS Officer Anurag Kumar

Anurag Kumar is a 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer. Before being appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner, he was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), where he handled several important intelligence assignments.

A day before his appointment, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved his repatriation from the Intelligence Bureau to his parent AGMUT cadre, paving the way for his new role.

About Satish Golcha

A 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, Satish Golcha previously served as the Director General of Tihar Jail. He was appointed Commissioner of Delhi Police on August 22, 2025, and led the force until the latest administrative reshuffle.
