Patna: In one of the biggest administrative reshuffles in recent years, the Bihar government late on Thursday night transferred 21 IAS and 27 IPS officers, bringing sweeping changes across the state's bureaucracy.
The reshuffle has impacted key administrative and police positions, including the replacement of District Magistrates (DMs) in 11 districts and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in 13 districts.
One of the most notable decisions in the reshuffle was the removal of Anand Kishore from the post of Chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), a position he held for nearly a decade.
Anand Kishore was appointed BSEB Chairman in June 2016 and played a crucial role in transforming the board's functioning, particularly in streamlining examination and result processes. Under his leadership, the Bihar Board earned recognition for being among the first education boards in the country to announce examination results.
The government has now appointed him as Additional Chief Secretary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department. Replacing him at the Bihar Board will be Thyagarajan SM, who has been serving as the District Magistrate of Patna.
The reshuffle has also brought major changes in district administration. Kundan Kumar, previously the District Magistrate of Nalanda, has been appointed as the new DM of Patna. Several other districts have also received new administrative heads as part of the government's effort to strengthen governance ahead of key developmental and administrative priorities.
Apart from district-level changes, the government has reshuffled leadership positions in several important state corporations and departments. Subrat Kumar Sen, the outgoing DM of Muzaffarpur, has been appointed Managing Director of the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL). Dharmendra Kumar, Director of Social Security, will take over as Managing Director of the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation. Saurabh Jorwal, former DM of East Champaran, has been appointed Managing Director of the South Bihar Power Distribution Company, while Chandrima Atri, currently OSD in the Revenue Department, has been given charge as Director of Social Welfare.
The state government has appointed new District Magistrates in 11 districts. The officers posted as DMs include:
The police department has also witnessed a significant shake-up. All three City SP positions in Patna have been reassigned. Mamta Kalyani has been posted as City SP (Central), Shailaja as City SP (East), and Sanket Kumar as City SP (West).
In addition, Atulesh Jha has been appointed City SP of Bhagalpur, while Abhinav Kumar has taken charge as City SP of Gaya.
New district police chiefs have also been posted in 13 districts, including Upendra Nath Verma (Aurangabad), Amitesh Kumar (Banka), Shaurya Suman (SSP, Purnia) and Shubhank Mishra (Vaishali).
The large-scale transfer exercise is being viewed as a significant administrative reset by the Nitish Kumar government, aimed at strengthening governance and improving administrative efficiency across Bihar.
