Kolkata: “Kolkata Police has undergone a big administrative shakeup wherein 18 inspectors have been transferred from one police station/ unit to another in the city,” a senior police officer informed on Saturday.
The notice has been issued by Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nandi.
Among the changes brought about by the reshuffle is the return of Soumitra Basu as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhowanipur Police Station in South Kolkata.
While Basu has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner (AC) since Friday, it has been ordered that he will have to work in the Bhowanipur police station while being an AC.
Basu worked as OC of Bhowanipur earlier but was later shifted to the Special Task Force (STF) before the election period. Earlier Bhowanipur OC Rajiv Chatterjee is now working with STF as an inspector.
Apart from the above, there have been a few other important re-postings as well. Dilip Sarkar, working as OC at Garden Reach Police Station, has been shifted to the Kolkata Traffic Police.
Akhilesh Jha, formerly working as OC at Metiabruz Police Station, has been shifted to the Intelligence Branch (IB). At the same time, Kaushik Sarkar, from the Special Branch, has been assigned to IB.
On the other hand, Sayan Biswas has been made the OC of Metiabruz Police Station, while Pratik Murmu has become the OC of Garden Reach Police Station.
The latest inspector-level transfers come weeks after the West Bengal government reshuffled 33 IPS officers on July 14.
The earlier reshuffle included changes at senior levels, including the appointment of a new state intelligence chief and transfers involving senior officers in key departments. The latest Kolkata Police order focuses on strengthening station-level administration and operational responsibilities across the city.
