Chandigarh: The Haryana government has taken strict action regarding a major bank scam in the state. Two senior IAS officers—Ram Kumar Singh and Pradeep Kumar—have been suspended due to their alleged involvement in this scam, which amounts to approximately ₹590 crore, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The case is linked to IDFC First Bank, and allegations regarding the misappropriation of government funds have surfaced during the investigation.
Ram Kumar Singh, a 2012-batch IAS officer, was recently appointed as the Municipal Commissioner of Panchkula and also served as the Special Secretary in the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Kumar is a 2011-batch officer who is currently serving as the Director of the Transport Department. He had been transferred to this post in 2025.
The investigation has revealed that the prime accused created several shell companies and firms. The prime accused used these entities to illicitly divert government funds into various bank accounts. This was a well-orchestrated scam, in which certain bank employees and government officials are also alleged to be involved.
Several individuals have been arrested in connection with this case so far. These include Ribhav Rishi, a former branch manager at IDFC First Bank, and Abhay Kumar, a relationship manager. Abhay Kumar's wife, Swati Singla, and his brother, Abhishek Singla, have also been taken into custody.
According to investigative agencies, approximately ₹300 crore was transferred into the account of a company named 'Swastik Desh Projects.' This company is reported to be registered in the names of Swati Singla and Abhishek Singla. This clearly indicates that the funds involved in the scam were misappropriated on a massive scale.
The Haryana Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau is conducting an in-depth investigation into this matter. According to sources, the names of additional IAS officers may also surface as the probe progresses. If evidence is found against them, action could be taken against them as well.
This case demonstrates the critical importance of transparency and oversight within the government system. This action by the government signals that strictness regarding corruption cases is increasing, and the guilty will not be spared.
