Ravi Agrawal re-appointed CBDT chairman for six months

According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on June 30, 2026, Agrawal has been re-appointed on a contract basis for a period of six months. His new tenure will begin from July 1, 2026, and continue till December 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of Ravi Agrawal as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on June 30, 2026, Agrawal has been re-appointed on a contract basis for a period of six months. His new tenure will begin from July 1, 2026, and continue till December 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The order states that the re-appointment has been approved on the usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central Government officers. The appointment has been made in relaxation of the Recruitment Rules.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes is the apex policy-making body for direct taxes in India and functions under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance. As CBDT Chairman, Ravi Agrawal will continue to oversee key matters related to income tax administration and direct tax policy implementation.
