Kolkata: Senior IAS officer Manoj Kumar Agrawal has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of West Bengal, marking a key administrative move following the completion of the recently concluded Assembly elections in the state.

The appointment comes after what authorities described as the successful conduct of free, fair and peaceful elections in West Bengal. Agrawal, a 1990-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, is considered one of the most experienced administrators in the state bureaucracy.

As per the officials Agrawal played a key role in ensuring smooth and peaceful polling during the elections, which also recorded high voter participation.

According to administrative sources, his experience in handling sensitive election management and maintaining coordination between various departments during a tense political atmosphere contributed to the decision to elevate him to the state’s top bureaucratic post.

Known For Administrative Experience

Manoj Kumar Agrawal is regarded as an experienced and disciplined administrator within bureaucratic circles. Over the years, he has held several important positions in the West Bengal government and is considered familiar with both governance and administrative operations in the state.

As Chief Electoral Officer, he oversaw election preparedness, coordination with the Election Commission and implementation of poll-related arrangements during the Assembly elections.

The government order stated that Agrawal will replace outgoing Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala. The appointment has come into effect immediately and he will continue in the position until further orders.

Focus On Governance And Stability

The appointment assumes significance amid the new government’s emphasis on strengthening administration and maintaining law and order in the state. Officials indicated that the government is focusing on administrative stability and faster coordination between departments following the political transition in Bengal.

Agrawal is expected to play a crucial role in implementing the new administration’s governance priorities in the coming months.
