Major shake-up: 10 IPS officers set to retire this month in UP
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday announced another significant administrative reshuffle, transferring seven Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to new assignments across the state. The latest move marks the second major transfer exercise undertaken by the state administration within a month, reflecting the government’s continued focus on strengthening administrative efficiency, improving governance mechanisms and streamlining the functioning of key departments.
The fresh transfer orders come shortly after the large-scale administrative restructuring carried out on July 27, when the Uttar Pradesh government transferred 41 Provincial Civil Service (PCS) officers, including 15 IPS officers, to new postings across various districts and departments. The series of transfers highlights the state government’s ongoing review of administrative deployment and workforce management at different levels of governance.
The latest reshuffle has brought changes in the postings of officers serving in several strategically important districts, including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Banda, Balrampur, Azamgarh, Chandauli and Bulandshahr. The transferred officers have been assigned responsibilities related to revenue administration, judicial proceedings, municipal governance and district-level coordination.
Administrative transfers of this nature are considered an important mechanism in government functioning, aimed at ensuring effective implementation of policies, strengthening field-level administration and maintaining accountability among officers holding critical positions. The newly appointed officials are expected to play a key role in improving public service delivery, managing district affairs and ensuring better coordination between government departments and local administrative bodies.
According to the official transfer notification, Jyoti Rai, who was serving as Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) in Balrampur, has been appointed as Additional Commissioner of Azamgarh Division. The new assignment places her in a key divisional administrative role involving supervision and coordination of revenue-related matters and governance activities.
Sandeep Kela, who was posted as City Magistrate of Banda, has been transferred and appointed as Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) in Balrampur. The position involves handling crucial responsibilities related to revenue administration, financial matters and coordination of district-level government functions.
Dinesh Chandra, previously serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Bulandshahr, has been appointed as the new City Magistrate of Banda. The appointment will involve responsibilities related to urban administration, law and order coordination and implementation of government directives within the city jurisdiction.
Divya Ojha, who was posted as SDM in Chandauli, has been transferred as Additional District Magistrate (Judicial), Bareilly. The new role involves oversight of judicial administrative functions, revenue court matters and legal proceedings handled at the district level.
Vinay Kumar Singh, earlier serving as City Magistrate of Prayagraj, has been transferred as City Magistrate of Gorakhpur. His new posting places him in charge of important administrative responsibilities in one of the state’s major urban centres.
Utkarsh Srivastava, who was holding the position of City Magistrate in Gorakhpur, has been transferred and appointed as City Magistrate of Prayagraj. The assignment comes with responsibilities related to urban governance, administrative coordination and implementation of civic management initiatives.
Nidhi Pandey, who was serving as Comptroller at Jan Bhawan, has been appointed as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Lucknow. The new role involves handling sub-divisional administration, revenue matters and coordination of government programmes at the local level.
The latest Uttar Pradesh government transfer list is expected to bring changes in the administrative functioning of several districts as newly appointed officers take charge after completion of official formalities. The reshuffle is being viewed as part of the state government’s broader administrative strategy to enhance efficiency, ensure effective governance delivery and maintain a responsive district administration system.
