Commercial LPG Price Falls, But Not for Every Consumer (Image Internet)
New Delhi: Businesses across India received welcome relief from July 1 as oil marketing companies reduced the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 183.50. The revised prices came into effect as part of the monthly fuel price revision, easing the burden on commercial establishments that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.
The reduction reverses the steady rise in commercial LPG prices witnessed in recent months due to fluctuations in international energy markets.
Following the latest revision, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has fallen to Rs 2,930, down from Rs 3,113.50. The reduction is expected to help businesses lower operational expenses, particularly those with high fuel consumption.
Hotels, restaurants, roadside eateries, bakeries, catering services and cloud kitchens are among the sectors expected to benefit the most from the lower commercial cooking gas prices.
While commercial users have gained from the latest revision, domestic consumers will continue paying the same price for cooking gas. Oil marketing companies have left the price of the standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder unchanged.
Although LPG prices are reviewed at the beginning of every month, domestic cylinder rates are also influenced by government policy in addition to international fuel prices.
Commercial LPG prices had climbed sharply over the past several months as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affected global energy supplies. Rising import costs and concerns over fuel availability pushed up international LPG prices, forcing businesses to absorb repeated increases.
The latest reduction indicates that pressure on global LPG markets has eased to some extent, allowing oil companies to revise commercial cylinder prices downward.
The price cut is likely to provide immediate financial relief to businesses that consume multiple commercial cylinders each month. Lower fuel costs may help improve operating margins for the hospitality and food service sectors.
However, for millions of households using domestic LPG cylinders, monthly cooking gas expenses remain unchanged, as no revision has been announced for residential consumers in the latest price update.
