New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Chairman RC Bhargava has called for faster economic reforms and stronger efforts to make it easier for businesses to operate in India. He said that both the government and opposition parties should support policies that help create wealth, generate jobs and strengthen the economy.
In his message to shareholders in Maruti Suzuki’s annual report for 2025-26, Bhargava said India needs quicker decision-making and greater use of technology to reduce delays and improve efficiency.
Bhargava said that technology has already shown how it can reduce corruption, save time and lower production costs. He urged governments to focus on creating a business-friendly environment and said that trusting the private sector and promoting competition would help India grow faster.
“Faster creation of wealth, in the most efficient manner, is the only way India can make up for the time lost,” he said. He also highlighted the automobile sector as an example, saying the industry’s growth has created large employment opportunities across the economy.
Bhargava said the passenger vehicle market is expected to expand strongly in the coming years. According to him, India’s car industry could reach 6.1 to 6.3 million units by FY 2030-31. He added that the small car segment, which had slowed in recent years, could see faster growth going ahead.
He said the recent GST reforms have improved the outlook for the automobile sector and may lead Maruti Suzuki to revise its long-term growth targets.
Bhargava praised the government’s GST reforms and said they played an important role in supporting the economy during challenging times. He said that after the new GST rates came into effect, Maruti Suzuki’s retail sales increased significantly.
The company ended March 2026 with around 1.9 lakh pending bookings, mainly due to production challenges caused by high demand for certain models.
The chairman said Maruti Suzuki is making changes in its manufacturing system to respond faster to changing customer demand. The company is developing production lines that can handle different models and platforms, allowing it to increase output of vehicles that are in higher demand.
He said Maruti Suzuki’s sales growth in the first quarter of FY27 was stronger than the overall industry growth.
Apart from economic reforms, Bhargava also stressed the need for multiple technologies to achieve India’s net-zero emission goals. He said India should not depend on only one technology and highlighted biogas as a promising clean fuel option.
According to him, biogas can be produced using locally available resources and could reduce dependence on imported CNG.
Bhargava said large-scale biogas production could provide several benefits, including cleaner fuel, better soil quality and additional income opportunities for farmers. He added that the leftover organic manure from the process could improve agricultural productivity and help reduce problems like crop burning.
Maruti Suzuki has been working with the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa on biogas-related projects. The company’s board has approved setting up four biogas plants in the first phase with an investment of around ₹561 crore.
Bhargava said India has the potential to become a stronger global economy if reforms continue at a faster pace.
He urged all political parties to support development-focused policies and ensure that the benefits of economic growth reach all sections of society. “Creating wealth efficiently is the key to building a more equal and stronger India,” he said.
