Crude oil prices: When oil prices rise in the international market, domestic prices also rise.
Dollar-rupee exchange rate: When the rupee weakens, imports become more expensive.
Government taxes: Central and state government taxes account for a significant portion of the price.
Refining costs: The process of converting crude oil into usable fuel.

Effective April 1, the price of Indian Oil's high-performance fuel, XP100 petrol, has been increased significantly. The price of this premium petrol has been increased from ₹149 per liter to ₹160 per liter, a sharp increase of ₹11 per liter.
XP100 petrol is the country's first 100-octane premium fuel, primarily used in luxury cars and superbikes. The higher octane level helps improve engine efficiency and performance, resulting in smoother running and increased power.
Not only petrol, but the price of Indian Oil's premium diesel variant, 'Xtra Green', has also been revised. Its price has now increased from ₹91.49 per liter to ₹92.99 per liter.
