Mumbai: Indian equities extended their recovery with the benchmark Sensex gaining more than 500 points in afternoon trade as positive global cues and upbeat company updates lifted investor sentiment ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision.
At 12:42 pm, the Sensex was trading 544.54 points or 0.75 per cent, higher at 72,927.01. The Nifty also advanced 162.10 points, or 0.72 per cent, to 22,717.85.
The domestic market continued its rebound from the previous trading session, supported by gains across several major sectors. The Nifty IT index was among the notable laggards, declining 1.11% during the session.
Easing crude oil prices and reduced concerns about aggressive monetary tightening in the United States provided additional support to equities. Asian markets opened higher after Wall Street ended the previous session on a positive note. Brent crude remained close to the $100-per-barrel mark, keeping energy prices firmly on investors’ radar.
Market participants are now closely watching the RBI’s upcoming policy announcement. The central bank’s interest rate decision is expected to remain a key trigger for domestic equities. Market expectations point towards a 25-basis-point rate hike, making the policy announcement an important event for banks, interest-sensitive sectors and the broader market.

Shares of the consumer goods company jumped more than 3%, reaching Rs 390.90 on NSE during Tuesday’s session. The company’s growth outlook helped attract buying interest as investors assessed the latest business update.
Vedanta shares also advanced sharply during the session, rising as much as 4.06% to touch an intraday high of Rs 265.40 on the NSE. The gains came after the company announced that its board is scheduled to meet this week to consider and approve its first interim dividend for the financial year 2026-27.
Amber Enterprises India also attracted investor attention after announcing the incorporation of a new wholly owned subsidiary, Amber Digital Technologies Private Limited in India. The stock gained as much as 2.2 per cent to reach an intraday high of Rs 6,730 per share on the NSE.
Mishra Dhatu Nigam, Paras Defence and Space Technologies, and Astra Microwave Products were among the leading gainers in the Nifty India Defence index. Reliance Industries was another major contributor to the market’s positive tone. Its shares climbed 2.8% to Rs 1,219.10 on the NSE, placing the stock among the top 10 gainers on the Nifty50 index.
Despite the broader market recovery, foreign portfolio investors continued to remain net sellers. Domestic institutional investors however provided support to the market. With global cues, crude oil prices, corporate updates and the RBI policy decision all in focus, investors are likely to closely track sectoral movements and fresh company announcements through the trading session.
