Sensex opens positive at 76,758, nifty in red, Brent Crude tops $79

Mumbai: Indian equity markets opened on a mixed note on Thursday amid mixed global cues.

The Sensex opened in positive at 76,758.96, while the Nifty slipped 450.40 points in early trade. The Bank Nifty also opened in the red, reflecting weakness in banking stocks.

Meanwhile, oil prices extended gains after the US struck targets in Iran for a second consecutive day, raising concerns over energy supplies from the Middle East.

Brent crude rose as much as 1.4% to above $79 a barrel after surging more than 5% on Wednesday. West Texas Intermediate traded near $74 a barrel.

GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,985, indicating marginal gains at the open.

Asian stocks also rose in early trade on Thursday, even as US markets ended mixed, with the Dow closing in the red and the Nasdaq finishing in the green.
