Bengaluru Facility Sealed After Officials Find Food Safety Violations (Img: X)
Bengaluru: Quick-commerce platform Zepto has come under scrutiny after the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) sealed one of its warehouses in Hoskote, Bengaluru, following a special inspection.
The food safety department said the action was taken after officials allegedly found violations related to food storage, handling, labelling and product information at the facility.
According to the FSDA, the inspection was carried out to check the quality, safety standards and compliance of food products stored at the warehouse. Officials claimed that several irregularities were detected during the inspection.
The department alleged that the warehouse had issues including unhygienic food handling practices, improper storage conditions, non-compliant labelling and misbranding of products.
Officials said the facility was sealed under provisions of food safety regulations due to concerns over hygiene and storage practices.
The action was taken under the framework of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with related rules and regulations.
Following the sealing of the warehouse, Zepto said it cooperated fully with authorities during the inspection.
The company stated that food safety inspections are part of regular regulatory oversight and assured that it was reviewing the observations raised by officials.
Zepto said it would take necessary steps to strengthen its processes and continue maintaining food safety standards.
The action against the Zepto facility comes amid a wider food safety inspection drive across Bengaluru.
Authorities have recently increased checks not only at restaurants and hotels but also at food storage and distribution centres.
During earlier inspections, officials reportedly found near-expiry products, collected food samples for testing and took action against establishments selling or storing items deemed unsafe for consumption.
With quick-commerce platforms becoming a major source of daily grocery deliveries, food safety officials are now focusing more closely on warehouses and storage hubs that supply products directly to consumers.
The Karnataka government has warned that strict action will continue against businesses found violating food safety regulations.
