New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in Greater Noida’s Ecotech-III area, with her family accusing her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to dowry-related harassment. Police have arrested the woman’s husband and father-in-law and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.

The deceased, identified as Deepika, was a resident of Kudi Khera village under the Badalpur police station area. According to police officials, she had married Hrithik, a resident of Jalpura village, around one-and-a-half years ago.

Incident Took Place on Sunday Night

Police said the incident occurred on Sunday night when Deepika allegedly jumped from the terrace of her house. Family members claimed she had been under severe mental stress because of continuous harassment linked to dowry demands.

She suffered critical injuries after the fall and later succumbed during treatment.

Following information about the incident, a police team from Ecotech-III police station reached the spot and initiated legal procedures. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.

Husband and Father-in-Law Arrested

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, police registered an FIR under sections related to dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.

Officials confirmed that the woman’s husband Hrithik and father-in-law Manoj have been arrested in connection with the case. Investigators are currently recording statements from family members and collecting additional evidence to verify the allegations.

Police said the matter is being examined from all possible angles and further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Another Similar Case Under Probe

The incident comes days after another alleged dowry harassment-related death involving a Noida woman, Twisha Sharma, whose body was found at her marital home in Bhopal earlier this month.

In that case, authorities formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations against her husband and mother-in-law. An autopsy report stated that Twisha died due to hanging, while investigators are also examining other findings mentioned during the medical examination.

The two incidents have once again brought attention to concerns surrounding dowry harassment and domestic abuse cases involving young married women.
