Bengaluru woman allegedly held captive over loan dispute; three accused arrested (Img: Police)
Bengaluru: A shocking case of alleged harassment and extortion has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 30-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted and kept captive for four days over a loan repayment dispute. Police have arrested three people in connection with the case.
According to the police complaint, the woman had borrowed around ₹1.5 lakh from two women on interest nearly two years ago. Due to financial difficulties, she reportedly failed to repay the amount on time, following which the accused allegedly pressured her for a much larger sum of ₹11 lakh, including interest.
The incident allegedly began on August 27 when one of the accused called the woman to a house in Metro Layout on the pretext of offering work and financial help. After she reached the location with her minor son, the accused allegedly assaulted her.
The complaint stated that the woman was later taken to another house in Kumbalgodu, where she was allegedly beaten, abused and confined inside a room. The accused allegedly threatened her with serious consequences if she failed to arrange the demanded money.
Police said the woman was also allegedly forced to record a video in a semi-naked state and was threatened with its circulation to pressure her into paying the amount.
The woman managed to alert authorities on August 31 when she got an opportunity to contact the police. Following the information, officers reached the location and rescued her.
A case has been registered against Nazath Begam, Reshma Banu, her husband Suhel and other suspects under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Police have arrested three accused, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining suspects. Further investigation into the allegations is currently underway.
