Brazilian arrested with Rs 24 crore worth cocaine
Bengaluru: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a Brazilian national and seized 4.776 kg of cocaine from him at Kempegowda International Airport here in Bengaluru.
The accused had travelled from São Paulo to Doha, Qatar, and subsequently boarded the flight from Doha to Bengaluru.
The NCB took to social media X and wrote that the contraband, valued at around Rs 24 crore in the illicit market, was seized from the checked-in baggage of the aacused passenger.
"Major Drug Bust at Bengaluru International Airport. NCB seizes 4.776 kg of cocaine from the checked-in baggage of a Brazilian national. The seized contraband is valued at around Rs 23.88 crore in the illicit market. The accused travelled from São Paulo to Bengaluru via Doha. Officers recovered four modified handbags with concealed compartments containing cocaine-infused fabric," Wrote NCB on X.
The NCB official in a release said, “During examination of the checked-in baggage of the accused, officers recovered four ladies’ handbags that had been specially modified with false walls and concealed bottom compartments. The cavities were found to contain multiple pieces of clothing fabric chemically infused with cocaine.”
“The accused has been secured for detailed questioning to ascertain the source, destination and wider conspiracy involved in the trafficking attempt. Necessary legal action under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been initiated,” the release further said.
