New Delhi: The deadly shooting at the prestigious Brown University campus in the United States has sent shockwaves across the country. The incident occurred on December 13, when an armed attacker entered an engineering building during final examinations and opened fire, killing two students and injuring nine others.

The campus was immediately placed under lockdown, with students sheltering in rooms and hiding under desks for several hours as law enforcement carried out a massive search operation.

FBI Releases New Video Timeline of Suspect

As the investigation continues, the FBI has released new surveillance footage showing the suspected shooter walking near the campus shortly before and after the attack. The video places the suspect in streets close to the engineering building starting around 2 PM on Saturday.

The individual is seen wearing dark clothing, with his face either masked or turned away from cameras. Authorities describe the suspect as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a heavy build. The footage shows him moving through nearby streets for nearly an hour.

Earlier Detained Person Released, Search Resumes

Investigators confirmed that a person initially taken into custody has been released after being cleared of involvement. With no suspect formally identified, federal and local agencies have intensified the manhunt.

The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest and said it has received nearly 200 public tips so far. Authorities have urged residents and businesses to review home and security camera footage.

Campus Remains on Edge After Deadly Attack

The shooting occurred inside a classroom using a 9mm pistol, after which the attacker fled the scene. University officials canceled exams and classes as students and faculty struggled to cope with the trauma.

Brown University described the incident as one of the most serious security breaches in its history.

Who Is Mustafa Kharbouch? Social Media Claims Spark Controversy

Amid the investigation, unverified claims on social media have drawn attention to a student named Mustafa Kharbouch, after users alleged that his online university profile had been removed.

According to online speculation, Kharbouch is reportedly a first-year student studying International and Public Affairs, described in the now-unavailable profile as a “third-generation Palestinian refugee, born and raised in Lebanon.” The profile also mentioned his involvement in community-building initiatives.

No Official Suspect Named, University Warns Against Doxxing

Law enforcement agencies have not named Mustafa Kharbouch—or anyone else—as a suspect, and there has been no official confirmation linking him to the shooting.

Brown University released a statement clarifying that a member of its community was facing “harmful doxxing”, or the public spread of private information, following the incident. The university said it had taken steps to limit online exposure to protect individual safety.

Despite this clarification, speculation continues online, prompting calls for restraint until authorities release confirmed information.

Authorities Urge Public to Avoid Speculation

Police and federal officials have appealed to the public to avoid spreading rumors and rely only on verified updates. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say releasing unconfirmed names could endanger innocent individuals.
