Drug Lord Prabhdeep Singh Brought Back to India
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of wanted drug lord Prabhdeep Singh from Azerbaijan to India with the help of multiple central agencies and international coordination through INTERPOL.
According to officials, the extradition operation was carried out jointly by the CBI, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Delhi Police.
Prabhdeep Singh was wanted in connection with a case registered at the Special Cell Police Station in New Delhi under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigators had earlier recovered a substantial quantity of narcotic substances in the case and arrested several co-accused linked to the network.
Officials said Prabhdeep Singh was the main organiser of the international narcotics racket and had been absconding for a long time to evade arrest.
At the request of Delhi Police, the CBI had earlier issued an INTERPOL Red Notice against the accused through international police coordination channels. After authorities in Azerbaijan geo-located and arrested him, India formally initiated extradition proceedings.
Following completion of the legal process, Azerbaijan authorities handed over the accused to Indian officials.
A three-member escort team of Delhi Police travelled to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to bring back the accused. The team arrived in Delhi along with Prabhdeep Singh on May 13, 2026.
The CBI, which acts as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, coordinates with law enforcement agencies through the BHARATPOL platform for international cooperation in criminal investigations.
Officials said coordinated efforts by the MEA, MHA, CBI and other agencies have helped India bring back more than 160 wanted criminals from foreign countries over the last few years.
