Mumbai: A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide less than two months after her marriage in Maharashtra's Ambernath, prompting police action against her husband and two members of his family. The incident has drawn attention after the woman's relatives accused her husband and in-laws of prolonged physical and mental harassment.

Family Alleges Harassment Began After Wedding

The deceased, identified as Vishakha Tilkar, married Nitin Tilkar on April 30 and moved into her husband's home in Ambernath. According to her family, relations between the two families were cordial before the wedding, but tensions emerged soon after the marriage ceremony.

Relatives alleged that Vishakha was repeatedly pressured to bring money and jewellery from her parental home. They claimed disagreements arose over gifts exchanged during the wedding and the treatment received by the groom's family.

Surveillance And Abuse Allegations

Family members further alleged that Vishakha lived under constant monitoring inside her matrimonial home. According to their claims, CCTV cameras had been installed both inside and outside the residence, allowing her husband to closely track her movements and interactions.

They also alleged that she was subjected to physical abuse for speaking with neighbours or other individuals. Relatives claimed she had informed her mother about the difficulties she was facing and expressed distress over the situation.

Parents Planned To Bring Her Home

According to the family, Vishakha's parents had started making arrangements to bring her back to her parental home after learning about the alleged harassment. However, before those plans could materialise, they received information that she had allegedly died by suicide.

The death occurred just 48 days after her wedding, leaving family members shocked and demanding strict action against those responsible.

Police Register Case, Husband Arrested

Police in Ambernath have registered a case against Vishakha's husband Nitin Tilkar, his mother Chhaya Tilkar and brother Ninad Tilkar. The case includes charges related to physical and mental harassment as well as abetment to suicide.

Officials said Nitin Tilkar has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the other two accused. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is underway.
