New Delhi: Delhi Court has sent Vinesh Chandel to judicial custody for 14 days. This decision came when he was produced in the court after the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ended.
Vinesh Chandel is the director and co-founder of I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee). He has been arrested in a money laundering case related to alleged coal pilferage. ED alleges that money was transferred illegally in this case.
According to the ED, Chandel is accused of transferring funds through informal means like hawala and carrying out transactions outside the banking system. The investigating agency says that many of their transactions are suspicious and do not appear to have any clear legitimate purpose.
During the investigation, ED also said that Chandel's statements kept changing several times and did not match the available evidence. On this basis, the agency had demanded extension of his custody.
Meanwhile, Vinesh Chandel has also filed a regular bail petition in the Patiala House Court. The court has sought reply from ED on this and the next hearing has been fixed for April 29.
Chandel was arrested on April 13, just in time for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026. Because of this, this matter is also much discussed politically. Now all eyes are on further investigation and court hearing in this case. The decision on bail will be important in the hearing to be held on April 29.
