Delhi Police bust Pakistan-linked terror module
New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell has dismantled a Pakistan-linked terror and organised crime network, arresting seven individuals allegedly involved in arms smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and reconnaissance of sensitive locations across the Delhi-NCR region.
According to police, the module was being operated under the directions of Pakistan-based handlers identified as Shahzad Bhatti and his associate Ajmal Gujjar. Investigators said the group was engaged in coordinating illegal arms and drug consignments allegedly sent from across the border via Punjab routes and, in some cases, through drone drops.
During the operation, police recovered five pistols, 41 live cartridges, seven mobile phones, and a Scorpio SUV from the accused. One of the arrested individuals, Mohit alias Yogi, was first detained after intelligence inputs received in May 2026, leading to the seizure of weapons and digital evidence linking him to foreign-based handlers.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were tasked with conducting reconnaissance of sensitive installations in Delhi, Ghaziabad, and adjoining areas. Police said photographs and videos of such locations were being shared with Pakistan-based operatives for possible planning of criminal or terror-related activities. Timely intervention by the Special Cell is believed to have prevented potential incidents.
Officials further stated that the network allegedly recruited young individuals through social media platforms and encrypted communication channels by offering quick money and glamorized criminal roles. Once inducted, members were reportedly involved in arms trafficking, drug distribution, and other illegal activities, including use of dead-drop methods to evade surveillance.
The investigation has also revealed that several accused have prior criminal records involving serious offences such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, violations of the Arms Act, and the NDPS Act. Some members were also allegedly involved in illegal money-lending operations used to finance the network’s activities.
Police said efforts are underway to trace absconding members, arms suppliers, and financial backers connected to the module. Further investigation is in progress to uncover the full extent of the network and its cross-border linkages.
