New Delhi: A 30-year-old Assistant Section Officer (ASO) working in the Ministry of Defence was found dead at her residence in Delhi’s Dwarka area, triggering allegations of harassment and cruelty by her family against her husband and in-laws.
The deceased, identified as Nazia Khanam, was found hanging at her home on August 21. According to Delhi Police, a PCR call regarding the incident was received around 4:21 pm, following which a police team reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
Her body was taken into police custody and later shifted to the mortuary at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital for further legal proceedings.
Nazia’s family has alleged that she was subjected to harassment and physical abuse by her husband and in-laws. They claimed that she was around three months pregnant at the time of her death and demanded a CBI investigation into the matter.
The family has also reportedly refused to take custody of her body, stating that they do not have confidence in the local police investigation.
Following the complaint submitted by her parents, Delhi Police registered an FIR against her husband and other members of her matrimonial family.
The FIR has been registered at Sector 23 Police Station in Dwarka under Sections 85 and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with allegations of cruelty and abetment of suicide.
Police said that the case was registered after Nazia’s parents submitted a fresh complaint before the SDM on August 22, alleging harassment by her husband and in-laws.
Earlier, on August 21, the family had appeared before the Executive Magistrate and submitted statements in which they had not raised any allegations against her matrimonial family. However, their subsequent complaint led to the registration of the FIR.
According to police, Nazia Khanam married Mohammad Azam Ali Khan on April 11, 2026. The couple was residing together in Dwarka, and Nazia was serving as an Assistant Section Officer in the Ministry of Defence.
Police said that all necessary legal procedures were followed after receiving information about the incident. The investigation is currently underway, and further action will be taken based on evidence collected during the probe.
The allegations made by Nazia’s family against her husband and in-laws have not yet been proven and will be examined as part of the investigation.
