Pune: A new development has emerged in the Ketan Agarwal murder case after the lawyer representing accused Siya Goyal dismissed reports claiming that she had secretly married co-accused Chetan Chaudhary. The clarification comes days after media reports suggested the two had allegedly tied the knot months before Ketan Agarwal's death.
Advocate Vipul Dushing, appearing for Siya Goyal, said reports about a marriage between Goyal and Chaudhary were without any factual basis.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dushing said news regarding the alleged marriage had appeared in several newspapers and online reports but maintained that there was "no substance" to the claims.
Earlier reports had alleged that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary had secretly married around four months ago without informing their families.
Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22, are accused of murdering 25-year-old realtor Ketan Agarwal by allegedly pushing him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18. Ketan and Siya were reportedly engaged and scheduled to marry in November this year.
The case has drawn widespread attention as investigators continue to examine digital evidence and the sequence of events leading up to the alleged crime.
Police are also investigating a Snapchat message allegedly sent by Siya Goyal to one of her friends in May, weeks before the incident. According to investigators, the message suggested that her marriage to Ketan Agarwal would not take place despite preparations for the wedding already being underway.
The message reportedly requested the friend's Aadhaar card for travel bookings while stating that the wedding was "not going to happen."
Investigators are verifying the authenticity of the message and plan to question the recipient to determine whether she had any prior knowledge of the alleged conspiracy.
In a separate development, Ketan Agarwal's 71-year-old grandfather, Devichand Agarwal, died of cardiac arrest at a Pune hospital on Saturday. According to family members, he had been undergoing treatment for several days before his death. The investigation into the murder case remains ongoing.
