Mumbai: Bollywood actor Dino Morea was questioned by the Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Friday in connection with the alleged Rs 65.54-crore Mithi River desilting case, with conflicting reports emerging over whether he was arrested. Several reports initially claimed that Morea was arrested after hours of questioning. However, the actor subsequently denied the reports, telling Mid-Day that they were “not true”. Later reports also said the EOW had not independently confirmed his arrest.
The controversy surrounding Morea's status emerged after reports claimed that EOW officials had questioned him for several hours at his Bandra residence before taking action against him. Morea later rejected the arrest reports. An EOW officer said the actor had been summoned as part of the ongoing investigation and that investigators were questioning him over leads that had emerged during the probe.
EOW investigation relates to alleged financial irregularities in contracts connected with the desilting and rejuvenation of Mumbai's Mithi River. Investigators have been examining suspected irregularities in work carried out under the project, with the alleged loss to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) estimated at more than Rs 65.54 crore.
The case has involved contractors, intermediaries and civic officials. Investigators are examining financial transactions and links between individuals connected to the probe.
Morea has previously appeared before investigators in connection with the case. He and his brother Santino Rocco Morea were questioned by the EOW in May 2025. According to police officials, investigators summoned Morea after examining phone records that allegedly showed contact with individuals linked to the case. Investigators have also examined business and financial connections involving Santino Morea's company, UBO Ridez Private Limited.
While some reports published on Friday described Morea as arrested or detained following questioning, subsequent reporting recorded his denial and said there was no independent confirmation from EOW at that stage. The latest available reports confirm that Morea was questioned as part of the ongoing Mithi River investigation. Any further action will depend on the findings of the probe and official communication from the investigating agency.
