
Strict crackdown on drug trafficking in Uttar Pradesh following cough syrup scandal
New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a crackdown on illegal drug trafficking in the state. Following the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) have launched a massive raid across the state.
The primary objective of this campaign is to crack down on drug traffickers and smugglers and prevent youth from falling prey to drug addiction.
The ANTF and FSDA jointly conducted a crackdown on illegal stocks of narcotic cough syrups, counterfeit narcotic drugs, and psychotropic medications in several districts of the state.

Medicines worth lakhs of rupees were seized during the raids. Additionally, more than two dozen medical stores were temporarily closed after evidence of illegal sale or stockpiling was found.

According to officials, the operation also involves extensive document scrutiny to break the illegal supply chain of narcotics. Efforts are being made to identify who is involved in this illegal trade and the extent of their supply network.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration took strict action under the NDPS Act against firms where evidence of illegal sale or storage was found. Several individuals were arrested, and illegal cough syrups and narcotics were seized at several locations.
This action is being taken to ensure that the drug trade is controlled and youth are protected from it.
A total of 128 FIRs have been registered in 28 districts under the special campaign. The highest number of cases was registered in Varanasi, with 38 cases. Jaunpur recorded 16 cases, Kanpur Nagar eight, Ghazipur six, and Lakhimpur Kheri and Lucknow four each.

Action was also taken in districts such as Bahraich, Bijnor, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sitapur, Sonbhadra, Balrampur, Rae Bareli, Sant Kabir Nagar, Hardoi, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Unnao, Basti, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Sultanpur, Chandauli, and Mirzapur.
This campaign by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath aims not only to arrest drug traffickers but also to warn them that no illegal trade will be tolerated. This campaign is being seen as the largest and most effective action against drug abuse in the state.
