Greater Noida: A six-year-old boy died after allegedly falling into a rainwater-filled pit dug for a borewell in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park 2 area, prompting an investigation into alleged negligence over safety measures at the site.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Kaladham Colony, where the child was reportedly playing with friends when he slipped into the deep excavation filled with rainwater. Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the Knowledge Park police reached the spot and initiated legal proceedings. An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's family, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the child's death and whether any negligence was involved.
According to local residents, the pit had been dug as part of a borewell project being carried out by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). They claimed the excavation, believed to be over 15 feet deep, was left open without barricades, warning signs or any protective covering despite being located inside a residential colony.
Residents alleged that the absence of basic safety precautions turned the site into a serious hazard, especially for children playing nearby.

Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ashutosh Gupta visited the site after the incident came to light and said preliminary findings indicated that the pit lacked adequate safety arrangements.
He said the administration would conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report to senior authorities. Officials also assured the victim's family that appropriate action would be taken if lapses in safety norms are established.
The incident has triggered outrage among residents, who have demanded strict action against those responsible and called for mandatory barricading and safety protocols at all construction and excavation sites to prevent similar tragedies.
