Chandigarh: At least six sweepers were killed and five others were injured when a pickup vehicle ran over them on the Delhi-Mumbai Motorway near Ebrahim Baas Village in Firozpur-Jhinka of Nuh district in Haryana, police sources said on Saturday.
Police said that the sweepers were engaged in road cleaning work at around 10 when the incident occurred. Injured persons have been rushed to a nearby hospital. Further details are awaited.
Driver Fled Away
Five deceased are said to be residents of Kheri Kalan village and one resident of Jhimrawat village. The cause of the accident is being investigated, and action has been initiated against the pickup driver, who managed to flee away from the spot.
“The circumstances of the accident will be ascertained with the help of CCTV footage and other evidence. The injured are being treated in hospital, and we are investigating with all angles,” said Inspector Aman Singh, SHO of Ferozpur Jhirka police station.

First Accident
Last month an accident occur on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Hirwadi in Nuh resulted in the death of a container truck driver when his vehicle collided with a stationary truck in the early hours of March 17.
Vikram Singh from Shivpuri in MP died on the spot while the driver of the stationary truck fled the spot. Police registered a fatal road accident case, and they have yet to identify the accused.
According to Ferozpur Jhirka police, Singh was on his way to transport goods to Delhi from Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur when, around 2am, he crashed into a truck parked illegally on the expressway without indicator lights.
Second Accident
In February a tragic accident occur in Haryana’s Panchkula. Four youngsters were killed when their car rammed into a stationary truck on Sunday, police said.
The youths were returning from Himachal Pradesh, when they met with the accident on the highway near Pinjore in Panchkula.
"Four youths have died in the accident, which occurred on the Panchkula-Shimla National Highway," a police official said. "The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination," he added.
