Panipat: Panipat police have arrested a 32-year-old woman from Haryana, identified as Poonam, for allegedly murdering four children over the past two years, including her own son. Authorities said the suspect was motivated by intense jealousy toward young girls she considered more attractive than herself.
The case came to light following the death of six-year-old Vidhi, who disappeared during a wedding function in Naultha village. The child was later discovered in a storeroom on the first floor, lying face down in a plastic tub filled with water. Investigators allege that Poonam lured the girl upstairs after guests had left, drowned her, and then locked the room from the outside before returning to the gathering below.
Upon further interrogation, Poonam reportedly confessed to three earlier murders. These victims, all young girls related to her, were previously believed to have died accidentally. The earlier victims included two six-year-old girls and a nine-year-old girl. Families had already performed the last rites, unaware of the crimes.
According to Panipat Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh, the suspect admitted to killing two children, including her three-year-old son Shubham, in Bhawar village in 2023, and another girl in Sewah village in August 2025. Authorities said she drowned her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter in a water tank at her home and later killed her own son to deflect suspicion.

Police indicated that Poonam confessed to harboring hatred toward girls she deemed beautiful. She reportedly became obsessed with the thought that these children might grow up to be more attractive than her. Investigators described her behavior as showing psychopathic tendencies, noting that her jealousy had escalated to the point of fatal violence.
