Kanpur: A shocking twist has emerged in the murder case of Uttar Pradesh pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Manocha, with police claiming that the victim’s own son allegedly planned the killing and initially tried to shift suspicion towards his wife.
The 60-year-old pharma dealer was found dead with serious injuries inside his flat in the upscale Kalyanpur area of Kanpur on September 5. The case, which initially appeared to point towards a family conspiracy involving the daughter-in-law, took a major turn after investigators examined call records, CCTV footage, digital evidence and the movements of the accused.
Police have now arrested Vineet Manocha’s son Subrat, alleging that he was the alleged mastermind behind the murder plot. The investigation has brought forward multiple angles, including property disputes, financial stress, alleged lifestyle issues and an attempt to create a false trail.
The case began when Vineet Manocha was found murdered at his residence. During the early phase of the investigation, police arrested his daughter-in-law Shalu Manocha along with former employee Vishal Gautam and his associate Rajkishore.
Investigators initially suspected Shalu’s involvement after statements and evidence pointed towards a possible family dispute. However, further interrogation and forensic analysis reportedly changed the direction of the probe.
According to police officials, digital evidence and call detail records revealed frequent communication between Subrat and Vishal before the murder. Investigators also examined deleted chats, mobile locations and other scientific evidence to establish the alleged sequence of events.
Police officials claim that Subrat’s motive was linked to fears that his father could transfer his assets or property to another woman with whom he allegedly had relationships.
Investigators said Subrat was worried that his inheritance could be affected and allegedly decided to eliminate his father instead of risking a change in property ownership.
The property angle has become one of the key focuses of the investigation, with police examining financial documents, family relations and ownership details.
Apart from the property dispute angle, police have also pointed towards Subrat’s alleged financial difficulties. Investigators claim that Subrat was dependent on financial support from his father and received around Rs 40,000 every month for expenses. At the same time, he was reportedly facing loan repayments of around Rs 55,000 per month.
Police are also examining allegations related to debts, betting activities and lifestyle expenses as part of the motive behind the alleged conspiracy. The investigation agency is looking into whether financial pressure played a major role in the planning of the crime.
According to police, the original plan was allegedly to make Vineet Manocha’s death appear natural or accidental. Investigators claim that Subrat allegedly involved his father’s former employee Vishal Gautam and another associate in the plan.
Police officials said the plan changed after the accused allegedly entered the house and the situation escalated, resulting in the fatal attack.
Investigators further alleged that efforts were made to divert suspicion towards Shalu Manocha after the murder. According to the police investigation, Vishal allegedly claimed that Subrat had instructed him to name Shalu if the conspiracy was exposed.
The investigation reportedly received a major breakthrough through digital evidence. Police examined multiple phone conversations between Subrat and Vishal, including calls made before and after the murder.
Investigators also found that Vishal had obtained a new SIM card shortly before the crime and that early communication from that number was linked to Subrat. CCTV footage, location tracking, recovery of evidence and forensic analysis are being used to verify the statements of the accused.
Although police have arrested Subrat as the alleged mastermind, Shalu Manocha has not been completely cleared in the case. Officials said the investigation is still ongoing and her role will be determined based on evidence presented before the court.
Shalu’s family had earlier maintained that she was wrongly implicated and demanded a fair investigation. The latest developments have shifted the focus of the case from the daughter-in-law to the victim’s son.
The case has created shockwaves in Kanpur as investigators claim the murder involved close family members and a possible property-related motive. The incident has once again highlighted how financial disputes, inheritance conflicts and family tensions can turn into serious criminal cases. The murder of a businessman inside his own home has raised concerns among residents and attracted widespread attention across Uttar Pradesh.
