Kerala: A shocking murder case has surfaced in Alappuzha district, where the body of a 65-year-old man was found inside a rented house in Karuvatta. The victim, identified as Shivankutti, was found with his hands and feet tied.
Police suspect that his 13-year-old granddaughter planned the murder and allegedly hired a group of teenagers to carry out the crime.
According to the police investigation, the girl allegedly wanted to buy an iPhone for herself and a bike for her boyfriend. Officials are also probing whether stolen money and valuables from the house were meant to be used for purchasing these items.
Police suspect that the teenagers involved in the crime may have recorded a video of the murder and later showed it to the girl, who was living away from her grandfather at the time.
The investigation revealed that Shivankutti’s hands and feet were tied behind his back using bedsheets and other materials found inside the house. Police suspect that he was strangled to death. Chili powder was also reportedly found scattered near the crime scene.
Police sources said the girl had befriended some teenagers while studying in Kollam. The murder was allegedly carried out after she came to know that her grandfather was alone at home.
Investigators suspect that the girl was upset with Shivankutti because he often scolded her for excessive phone use and returning home late.
Shivankutti had been staying alone in the rented house for the past few days as his wife was at a hospital with their daughter, who had been admitted for delivery. His other daughter, Shashikala, lives abroad.
The victim’s body has been kept at Haripad Taluk Hospital, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
