Singhbhum: A big Naxal leader was killed in an encounter between security forces and Naxalites in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on Sunday morning. This Naxal commander named Amit Hansda, alias Aptan, was wanted by the Jharkhand Police for a long time, and a reward of Rs 10 lakh was announced for him.
The police had received secret information that Naxalites were active in the Burjuwa hill area near Rela village under Arahasa Panchayat of Goilkera block. After this, a joint team of Jharkhand Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted a search operation.
As soon as the security forces entered the area, the Naxalites started firing. In retaliation, there was heavy firing from both sides. Many Naxalites managed to escape towards the forest, but Amit Hansda was killed on the spot. Police have also recovered a self-loading rifle from the spot.
Amit Hansda was a resident of Chilgu village in the Chatrachatti police station area (Bokaro) and was an active member of the Maoist organization since 2008. He is accused of being involved in more than 96 major Naxalite incidents, including the killing of several policemen and civilians.

The killing of Amit Hansda is considered a major success for the anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand. The killing of this dangerous Naxalite who was absconding for a long time will boost the morale of the police. It also indicates that the state government and security forces are now geared up to completely eliminate the Naxal network.
