NCB’s Biggest Jammu Strike: 5.16 Kg Heroin Seized, Drug Network Under Scanner
Jammu: In a major crackdown against organised narcotics trafficking, the Jammu unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau has busted a suspected cross-border heroin network, recovering 5.16 kg of heroin and arresting three alleged operatives linked to the supply chain.
The intelligence-driven operation has become a significant development in the region’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking, as investigators believe the seized consignment could be connected to a larger international network involving suppliers, transporters and local distributors.
Among those arrested is a person suspected by investigators to be the key supplier and alleged mastermind behind the operation. The NCB launched the operation after receiving specific intelligence inputs on August 22, 2026, about the movement of a suspected drug trafficking network.
Acting on the intelligence input, NCB officials laid a surveillance trap at Panjtirthi in Jammu. During the operation, a suspicious vehicle was intercepted, following which officials recovered 5.160 kg of heroin. Three individuals from Baramulla were arrested after the contraband was allegedly found in their possession.
The seizure provided investigators with crucial leads about the structure of the suspected drug network and helped uncover possible links operating beyond the immediate supply chain. The contraband has been seized, while forensic examination and further investigation are underway to determine its origin, movement route and intended destination.
Following the initial seizure, investigators intensified their probe to identify the people controlling the network. During the investigation, the agency gathered information about another Baramulla resident who was allegedly coordinating the supply operation and acting as a key link in the trafficking chain.
Based on these leads, an NCB team traced the alleged supplier to Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The accused was arrested on August 24, only two days after the Jammu seizure. The agency is now examining the individual roles of all arrested persons and attempting to uncover the complete hierarchy of the suspected narcotics network.

The investigation has also brought attention to possible cross-border connections. Initial findings suggest that the seized heroin may be linked to an international drug trafficking network, with investigators examining the possibility that the consignment originated from Pakistan and entered India through the Uri border sector.
However, officials are continuing their investigation to establish the exact source of the narcotics, identify the cross-border suppliers and uncover the complete route used for transportation. The probe is also focusing on financial transactions, communication networks, logistics arrangements and possible local support systems involved in the operation.
The latest action reflects a broader strategy by the NCB to dismantle organised drug syndicates rather than only arresting individuals involved in transporting narcotics. Investigators are working to identify both backward links and forward connections of the network.
The backward investigation focuses on tracing the source of the heroin, international suppliers and funding channels, while the forward investigation aims to identify distributors and possible markets where the drugs were intended to be supplied.
Officials believe that breaking the entire chain is crucial to preventing repeated drug trafficking attempts.
The latest seizure is part of the Jammu NCB unit’s continued efforts against illegal drug networks in the region.
Earlier in August, the agency carried out two separate heroin seizures. On August 12, officials recovered 438 grams of heroin, followed by another seizure of 603 grams on August 13.
The series of operations highlights the agency’s increased focus on disrupting narcotics networks and preventing the spread of drugs among communities.
Jammu and Kashmir has remained a key focus area for security and law enforcement agencies due to concerns over cross-border smuggling routes.
As part of its anti-drug initiative, the NCB has encouraged citizens to share information about narcotics trafficking activities. People can provide confidential information through the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline by dialling 1933. The agency has assured that information received through the helpline will remain confidential and will help strengthen investigations against organised drug networks.
The investigation into the suspected heroin trafficking network is continuing, with the NCB examining possible links across borders and within local distribution channels. Officials are expected to investigate financial trails, additional suspects and the wider structure of the alleged syndicate.
The arrests and seizure mark a major step in the fight against cross-border narcotics trafficking, but investigators believe more links may emerge as the probe progresses. The accused individuals remain subject to investigation and will be dealt with according to the legal process.
