New Delhi: Details of an alleged conspiracy ring of teachers, facilitators and candidates behind the leakage of the NEET UG 2026 examination paper have come to light through an ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case.
According to the inquiry reportd, leaked papers of the examination were allegedly in circulation several days before the national-level medical entrance examination, and affected lakhs of students taking the test at various locations.
NEET UG exam was conducted in 565 cities in 13 languages, and 22 lakh candidates appeared for the medical entrance test.
According to the investigation, the alleged leak came to light after leaked PDF files were compared with the original question paper following the examination.
A chemistry faculty member from Sikar reportedly verified that hundreds of leaked questions matched the official NEET paper and alerted the National Testing Agency (NTA), triggering a detailed investigation.
The probe later revealed the alleged use of digital communication channels, including WhatsApp groups, to circulate examination-related material.
The CBI was reported to have learned from its investigations that secrecy measures were employed by the people associated with the said operation.
Code names were assigned to various question paper sets, while some of those accused of being involved in the operation are said to have stored their contacts using fictitious names to prevent identification.
A person among those accused was said to use the code name “Ap Broker” in relation to the said leak operation.
One of the aspects that have come to light through the investigation is the role played by teachers who apparently helped coordinate and recruit students.
According to CBI, some teachers held classes prior to the examination in which students were supposedly provided with questions and answers related to the leaked question paper.
According to allegations, candidates and their parents were offered NEET questions in return for hefty sums.
The probe also examined allegations that leaked physics and biology questions were shared through WhatsApp before the examination.
Some accused allegedly attempted to remove evidence after the leak became public, including claims of destroying notebooks containing handwritten questions and clues.
The CBI has already filed a chargesheet against several arrested accused, who remain in judicial custody as the investigation continues.
