Fresh plea in Supreme Court seeks dissolution of NTA
New Delhi: Amid the ongoing investigation into the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, the United Doctors Front (UDF) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the creation of a new statutory framework for conducting national-level exams.
The petition, filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, describes the NEET-UG 2026 examination as a case of “systemic and catastrophic failure” and calls for structural reforms in the medical entrance examination process.
The UDF has requested that the Central Government introduce legislation in Parliament to establish a statutory National Testing Body with clear legal authority, enhanced transparency, and accountability to Parliament.
CBI Arrests Key Suspect in Paper Leak
In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Professor P. V. Kulkarni, a Pune-based chemistry expert involved in setting NEET question papers, identifying him as the primary source of the leak.
According to the CBI, Kulkarni allegedly exploited his privileged access to confidential material to conduct special coaching sessions at his residence during the last week of April.
During these sessions, students were reportedly provided with the exact questions and answers that appeared in the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3. Kulkarni is said to have coordinated these activities with another accused, Manisha Waghmare, who was arrested on May 14.
Students attending these sessions allegedly paid several lakh rupees for access to the leaked material. The CBI has recovered documents, electronic devices, and mobile phones during searches across multiple locations, which are now undergoing detailed forensic and technical analysis.
The petition and the ongoing investigation have intensified the debate over the integrity of India’s national entrance examinations, highlighting calls for systemic reform and stricter oversight mechanisms.
