New Delhi: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside a sleeper bus in Greater Noida by the vehicle's driver and conductor, police said. The accused duo has been arrested and the bus has been seized for forensic examination.
The incident reportedly took place near Pari Chowk on August 4, when the teenager was travelling from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district to Noida.
According to police, the Class 11 student had left her home without informing her family after being reprimanded by her mother over studies.
She was reportedly travelling to Noida Sector 63 to meet her cousin. During the journey, she mistakenly got down at Pari Chowk amid heavy rain and darkness.
Police said the girl, after realising she was at the wrong location, stopped an empty sleeper bus passing through the area.
The driver and conductor allegedly told her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector 63, following which she boarded the vehicle.
The bus was reportedly returning empty after repairs at a workshop in Surajpur.
According to the complaint, shortly after the bus started moving, the conductor allegedly behaved inappropriately with the girl.
She alleged that both the driver and conductor sexually assaulted her inside the moving sleeper bus and threatened her with serious consequences if she resisted.
The accused allegedly dropped her near Kashmere Gate in Delhi and fled.
After reaching Kashmere Gate, the girl approached the police and reported the incident.
Delhi Police traced and arrested the accused — identified as driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep — from a parking area in Timarpur.
The accused have been booked under charges including gang rape, kidnapping and assault.
Police seized the sleeper bus involved in the case and sent it for forensic examination.
Officials said the bus had curtains covering the sleeper berths, making it difficult for outsiders to notice what was allegedly happening inside.
Forensic teams also recovered strands of the girl's hair from the vehicle, police said.
A Child Welfare Committee handed over the girl to her parents, while the accused were sent to judicial custody.
Police said CCTV footage from the route is being examined and further investigation is underway.
The case has once again raised concerns over women's safety during private bus travel, particularly on late-night routes.
