Patna: A shocking cybercrime angle has emerged in the investigation into the suspicious death of a 12-year-old student in Patna’s Shastri Nagar police station area. Police investigations have revealed that the child was allegedly being blackmailed through an objectionable fake image created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The police have arrested the main accused, Sunil Sao, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, in connection with the case. According to investigators, the accused was allegedly demanding money from the student and threatening to circulate the fake image.

Accused Used Fake Girl Profile to Contact Student

During the investigation, police found that the student was in regular contact with a person through a mobile number that had a girl’s photograph as its display picture.

However, technical analysis revealed a different identity behind the account. Police claimed that the person operating the account was Sunil Sao, a resident of Hazaribagh, who allegedly trapped the student through digital communication.

AI-Generated Fake Image Used for Blackmail

According to police officials, the accused allegedly used the student’s photograph to create a fake objectionable image with the help of AI technology. He then reportedly threatened the student with making the image public and pressured the child for money.

Investigators also found indications of financial transactions between the accused and the student. The accused was traced through analysis of mobile phone records and banking details.

Family Had Suspected Conspiracy

After the student’s death, the family had registered a case against unknown persons and suspected that there could be a larger conspiracy behind the incident.

Initially, the case was investigated from multiple angles, but after the cyber blackmail angle surfaced, police shifted their focus towards digital evidence and online communication records.

Accused Arrested, Investigation Continues

Secretariat SDPO-1 Dr. Anu Kumari confirmed that the accused has been arrested. She said important details emerged during the examination of mobile records and financial transactions.

Police are now investigating how the accused came in contact with the student, how long the alleged blackmail continued, and whether any other person was involved.

AI Misuse Raises Digital Safety Concerns

The case has once again highlighted concerns over the misuse of Artificial Intelligence technology. Experts and authorities have warned that AI-generated fake images and digital manipulation are increasingly being used for intimidation, harassment, and cyber blackmail.
