Bhopal: A special CBI court in Bhopal has sent former judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the death of model and actor Twisha Sharma. The court ordered that both accused remain in jail until June 16 as the investigation continues.
The CBI has named both Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh as primary accused in the case, which is being closely monitored due to its high-profile nature.
Following their entry into Bhopal Central Jail, the two accused have been assigned prisoner numbers as part of standard procedure. Giribala Singh has been given prisoner number 71, while Samarth Singh has been registered as prisoner number 1728.
Given her background as a retired judge, Giribala Singh has been placed under supervision in the women’s barracks and accommodated in the medical section alongside other inmates. Samarth Singh has been lodged in Block B of Barrack No. 4, where he is housed with other prisoners under routine observation.
Jail authorities confirmed that both have been issued basic prison supplies in line with regulations.
During the court hearing, emotional scenes were witnessed as Giribala Singh appeared before the magistrate prior to being remanded. The Central Bureau of Investigation informed the court that key parts of the investigation are still pending, including forensic analysis of electronic devices and the second post-mortem report.
The agency argued that continued custody was necessary to complete the investigation, after which the court approved judicial remand.
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. The CBI took over the investigation earlier this week and registered a fresh FIR naming both accused.
Authorities are continuing their probe as further forensic and technical reports are awaited.
