Raipur Shock: Family of Five Found Dead at Home, Police Probe Suspected Murder-Suicide

A locked house, a foul smell and five bodies inside- Raipur police are now probing whether a family tragedy was a case of murder followed by suicide. What really happened remains unclear.

Raipur: A family of five, including three teenage children, was found dead inside a rented house in Raipur's Tikrapara area, prompting police to investigate the case as a suspected murder-suicide. Officials, however, said the exact sequence of events will be confirmed only after the post-mortem and forensic examination.

Bodies Found After Neighbours Alert Police

The incident came to light late Friday night when neighbours noticed the house had remained locked for an unusually long time and a foul smell was coming from inside. After receiving no response despite repeated attempts to contact the family, they informed the police.

A police team reached the spot and forced open the door. Inside, officers found five bodies, including that of the head of the family, identified as 50-year-old Syed Sajid alias Sajju, whose body was hanging in the kitchen.

Wife and Three Children Found Inside House

The bodies of Sajid's wife, Rabia, son Irshad Ali (19), and daughters Shahida Begum (17) and Irshaba Parveen (16) were found lying inside the house.

During the initial inspection, police noticed froth around the mouths of the four victims. Investigators also recovered a pesticide container and food items from the residence, leading to suspicion that a poisonous substance may have been consumed before Sajid allegedly died by suicide.

Forensic Investigation Underway

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the scene, collected evidence and sealed the house for further investigation. Police believe the deaths may have occurred on Thursday night, as the family had not been seen since then.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage, mobile phones and documents recovered from the house to establish the timeline of events and determine the motive behind the tragedy.

Originally from Bihar, Sajid had been living in the rented accommodation with his family for the past eight months. He was engaged in the used battery business, while his son worked at a private company in Raipur. Police are questioning relatives, neighbours and the landlord as part of the investigation. Officials said all possibilities, including murder followed by suicide, remain under investigation until the forensic and post-mortem reports are received.
