Jammu Kashmir Terror Encounter
Srinagar: A gunfight erupted between security forces and terrorists in the Dorimal forest area of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. Officials said the operation began after intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the dense forest region.
During the search operation, security personnel came under fire, triggering an active encounter. Initial reports suggest that 2-3 terrorists are believed to be trapped inside the forest, while the security forces have tightened the cordon to prevent their escape.
Security forces, including Army units and local police, have launched a coordinated search and containment operation in the area. The dense forest terrain has made the operation challenging, but officials said efforts are underway to neutralise the threat.
Additional reinforcements have reportedly been deployed to ensure complete sealing of the encounter site. Authorities have urged locals to stay away from the area as operations continue.
The latest encounter comes months after security forces claimed significant success against terror networks in the region. Earlier this year, the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army stated that the terror network in Kishtwar had been eliminated after a prolonged operation lasting over 300 days.
Among those killed in previous operations was Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Saifullah, identified as a key planner in terror activities in the region.
The encounter also comes amid strong remarks from senior military leadership. Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi recently warned that Pakistan must choose between continuing support for terrorism or facing severe consequences.
His remarks reiterated India’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism and highlighted ongoing security concerns in Jammu and Kashmir.
The situation follows heightened security operations after Operation Sindoor, launched in response to a major terror attack. The operation involved precision strikes and subsequent counter-operations, leading to a brief but intense military escalation between the two countries before a ceasefire understanding was reached.
