New Delhi: A gruesome and tragic incident took place on Friday night (August 29) in the Kalkaji area of ​​Delhi. Yogendra Singh (35 years), a sevadaar of the temple, was beaten to death by a mob.

The incident took place at around 9:30 pm when some devotees got angry when they did not get prasad and chunni in the temple. In a fit of rage, they attacked Yogendra Singh with sticks and rods, after which he was taken to AIIMS Trauma Center, where he died during treatment.

Cause of murder and sequence of events

According to locals and police investigation, the incident took place due to a trivial dispute. Accused Atul Pandey (30 years) and his companions had come to the temple for darshan and were demanding chunni as prasad.

When sevadaar Yogendra Singh did not give the chunni, the dispute escalated, and the mob brutally attacked him. As soon as the information about the attack was received, the police reached the spot and arrested the main accused, Atul Pandey, while the search for other attackers is on.

Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has expressed deep concern over this incident. He shared a video on social media and raised questions on the law and order of Delhi.

Kejriwal said, “Such an incident at a holy place like a temple is a failure of law and order. Is no one safe in Delhi now?” He accused the central government and BJP of collapsing the security system of Delhi.

Yogendra Singh was a resident of Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh and had been working as a sevadar in Kalkaji temple for the last 15 years. His brutal murder has once again highlighted the issue of security and tolerance in the society.
