Tamil Nadu: Police in Coimbatore have arrested two individuals in connection with the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Kannampalayam in the Sulur region. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and protests in the area.

According to police officials, the main accused has been identified as Karthik, a 33-year-old resident originally from Nagapattinam and currently living near Sulur. Another man, Mohan Raj, has been arrested for allegedly helping him in the crime.

Girl Went Missing While Buying Groceries

The young girl had reportedly gone out on Thursday evening to buy groceries from a nearby shop when she went missing. After an extensive search, her body was discovered near a lakebed in Kannampalayam on Friday.

Investigators believe the child was abducted before being killed. The body has since been sent to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Public Protest Demands Justice

The incident triggered strong reactions from local residents, students and the victim’s relatives, who staged a protest and road blockade on Sulur Road demanding strict punishment for those responsible.

Senior police officials, including Inspector General of Police R V Ramya Bharathi, visited the protest site and assured demonstrators that a fair and thorough investigation would be conducted.

A family relative stated that the family first received information that the girl was missing before later being informed about the discovery of her body. The family has demanded swift justice and strict legal action against the accused.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Responds

Vijay described the crime as “inhuman and unforgivable” in a statement shared on social media. He expressed condolences to the grieving family and confirmed that two suspects had been arrested.

The Chief Minister also directed police authorities to carry out a fast-track investigation and file the chargesheet quickly. He assured that the state government would take all necessary legal measures to ensure severe punishment for crimes against women and children.

Police officials said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
