Pune: A 65-year-old man has been taken into custody by Pune Rural Police following the horrific sexual assault and murder of a four-year-old girl. The incident took place on Friday in a village within the Bhor tehsil of Maharashtra's Pune district. Authorities report that the suspect allegedly lured the young victim with the promise of food before taking her to a shed located in a cattle enclosure.

CCTV Evidence Leads to Arrest

The crime came to light after the child’s relatives launched a search when she failed to return home. The breakthrough in the investigation occurred when private CCTV footage emerged, showing the accused walking with the child. This evidence allowed police to quickly identify and apprehend the senior citizen.

Public Outcry and Highway Blockade

The news triggered immediate fury among local residents. Hundreds of villagers converged on the local police chowki, demanding the harshest possible punishment for the perpetrator. The unrest escalated into a "rasta roko" protest on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, causing significant traffic congestion.

Police Assurance

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police, Sandipsingh Gill, arrived at the scene to pacify the grieving community. He assured the public that the investigation would be fast-tracked, promising that a formal chargesheet would be filed within 15 days to ensure swift justice.
