New Delhi: Police have arrested Samarth Singh, the prime accused in the death case of model and actress Twisha Sharma. Singh, who had been absconding for several days, was taken into custody in Jabalpur during a joint operation by the Bhopal and Jabalpur police teams.

Following his arrest, the Katara Hills police team left for Bhopal with the accused. Samarth Singh will first undergo a medical examination at JP Hospital before being presented before a Bhopal court. Police are expected to seek a seven-day remand for further interrogation in connection with the case.

In an attempt to avoid arrest, Samarth had earlier filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Jabalpur High Court. However, during Friday’s hearing, he withdrew the petition. The High Court subsequently directed him to surrender before the Station House Officer (SHO) of Katara Hills police station or the investigating officer.

Probe Into Those Who Sheltered the Accused

Police officials stated that action would be taken against anyone found to have provided shelter to Samarth Singh while he was on the run. Investigators are also examining his movements and whereabouts during the period he remained absconding.

Authorities further revealed that despite three notices being issued, Giribala has yet to appear before the police for questioning.

Court Declines Surrender Plea

After the High Court’s direction, Samarth Singh reached the Jabalpur District Court on Friday evening intending to surrender. However, the court reportedly refused to accept his surrender plea.

According to police sources, Samarth then attempted to evade arrest by hiding inside a room within the court premises. Acting on a tip-off regarding his presence, police teams from Bhopal and Jabalpur launched a coordinated search operation and detained him from the court complex.

After completing legal formalities, the Jabalpur police handed him over to the Bhopal police team late Friday night.

SIT chief ACP Rajneesh Kashyap confirmed the arrest and said the accused would be produced before the court on Saturday afternoon, where police would request custody for detailed questioning in the ongoing investigation.
