UP: Overloaded truck crushes three youths to death in Mahoba

Mahoba: Three youths were killed after being crushed by an overloaded truck in Kabrai area of Mahoba district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Monday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vandana Singh said that this incident took place around late on Sunday night near Chhani Mod on Kanpur-Sagar National Highway when a group of youths working in a catering service were returning to their homes after finishing a wedding ceremony in the nearby Barbai village.

She said that near Sahu Petrol Pump, the truck loaded with ballast crushed the three youths and fled. "Pramod Kushwaha (25), Bharat (17) and Jeetu (15), all residents of Kabrai town, were killed on the spot in the incident. "On receiving information about the incident, the police team immediately reached the spot but no one could survive," she said.

The ASP said that the police later recovered the truck, but its driver fled from the spot. "Police are trying to arrest him," she said.

In the last week of March two youths were killed when a motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle in Kharela area of Mahoba district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vandana Singh said that Brajendra (23) and his cousin Kamta Kushwaha (28), both residents of Tikri village, had come to Mahoba to buy agricultural equipment. "When they were returning home with the goods in the afternoon, an unidentified vehicle hit them near Rivai and fled," she said.

She said that the youth were badly injured after being hit by the vehicle and fell on the road. "The police took them to the Community Health Centre of Charkhari from where the doctors referred them to the Medical College in a serious condition," she said.

In Febraury four devotees returning from Prayagraj after attending the Maha Kumbh were killed when their car collided with a truck on the Kanpur-Sagar highway, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Naresh Nagar (35), Awadhesh Nagar (35), Bhura Gurjar (35) and Pooja Nagar (23), all from Madhya Pradesh.

The accident occurred near Bara Nala in the Srinagar Kotwali area in the early hours of Friday, police said.

"Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the car to veer into oncoming traffic and collide with the truck," Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said.

While three people were killed at the spot itself, Pooja died at the district hospital.

Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Further investigation is underway.
